Human Rights Fellow

The SMU Human Rights Fellowship provides a year of in-depth mentoring to exceptional students as they target pressing human rights problems through social innovation projects of their own design. It is the university’s most prestigious Human Rights honor.

What is Generation Wealth?

My project is based on the premise that the wealth disparity between black and white households has more than quadrupled in the last decade and less than 2 percent of financial advisers are black. What this says to me is that there is a major deficiency of education and tools in black households, schools and communities.

Through an examination of history and the economic impacts of racism, Generation Wealth aims to educate and empower communities with a free digital toolkit and real stories from community members. My mission is to spread awareness about the historic injustice against black communities in America, to share stories that let you know you are not alone on your financial journey and to provide free tools and guidance for becoming and staying financially free.

Generation Wealth shares the financial tools and information that I wish I had earlier in my life. It is my call to action and plea for help.

The presentation below briefly discusses the mission behind Generation Wealth and includes data from a survey of 204 Dallas residents from various backgrounds. These responses guided my research and my choices for the digital toolkit.

A special Thank You to everyone who played a role in making this project possible!
